The body surface mapping of the electric heart field is a non-invasive method of multi-lead electrocardiography. Unlike the standard 12-lead examination using 6 electrodes, a large number of electrodes are attached to the chest and two- or three-dimensional images called maps are displayed and analysed instead of individual curves. The number and position of the electrodes depends on the particular lead system used. The maps show the distribution of the chest electrical voltage in one time instant (isopotential map), during an appropriately selected part of the heart beat – an interval (isointegral maps), or display the time values associated with the distribution of chest electrical voltage (isochronous maps – ICHM) that correspond to certain action in the electrical activity of the heart. For example, it may be time values related to so-called threshold voltage, with maximum peak voltage (R peak), intrinsicoid deflection, duration of ventricular depolarization and repolarization (ARI interval).
The aim of the PhD dissertation is to prepare suitable software that in a user-friendly environment allows the calculation, display and analysis of such ICHMs for all lead systems implemented in the ProCardio measuring device with which it must be compatible. The functionality of the software needs to be verified at appropriate sets of both healthy persons and patients with various cardiovascular diseases.
The PhD student is expected to be interested in this topic, to have the ability of logical and mathematical thinking, the ability to study the professional literature independently in English, to master a suitable programming environment (such as MATLAB), to work in a team.
