The research was focused on the development of a new type of aluminosilicate glasses and glass-ceramics with luminescent properties. The effect of Bi on the crystallization kinetics of the gelenite (2CaO-Al2O3-SiO2) glass was investigated. The obtained knowledge can be used in the preparation of gelenite glass-ceramics, since glass-ceramics are produced by controlled crystallization of glasses. As a result of our research, the effect of Bi addition does not significantly affect the crystallization properties of the gelenite glass prepared by conventional melting. From a practical point of view, this means that it is possible to prepare Bi-doped gelenite glass-ceramics, which have better mechanical properties compared to conventional ceramics, interesting optical properties, and most importantly, the production cost would be lower compared to the preparation of a conventional ceramic material with the same composition.
