Conferences organized by Institute of Measurement Science

The organization of conferences and workshops is one of the important activities of the Institute of Measurement Science of the Slovak Academy of Sciences defined in its founding charter. On this website you can find links to upcoming and ongoing as well as already held conferences, in the organization of which the Institute participated. Among the most important such conferences in recent years are the international conferences MEASUREMENT and ProbaStat.

MEASUREMENT Conferences. After the interruption of the tradition of EMISCON conferences in 1991, the institute initiated the establishment of the international workshop MEASUREMENT. Its original goal was to compare the results obtained at the Institute with research in leading foreign laboratories represented by invited lectures. Six such workshops were held and the castle in Smolenice became the traditional place for their meetings. However, they gradually turned into open scientific events of experts working in the field of measurement theory, design of experimental systems for measurement of selected quantities in physics and biomedicine, processing of biosignals and medical images and mathematical and computer modeling of bionic structures. In 1997 the international conference MEASUREMENT was established as a two-year cycle of meetings of experts from various fields of measurement, held in an informal and creative atmosphere. The conference always includes the areas of Theoretical Problems of Measurement, Measurement of Selected Physical Quantities, and Measurement in Biology and Medicine, which are supplemented by other specific sessions.

ProbaStat Conferences. International conferences on mathematical statistics ProbaStat are organized by the Institute of Measurement Science of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, traditionally in cooperation with the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of the Comenius University in Bratislava, the Institute of Mathematics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Union of Slovak Mathematicians and Physicists. These conferences continued the long-standing tradition of domestic Czechoslovak ProbaStats, the first of which was organized in 1975. The first international ProbaStat conference was held in 1991 in Bratislava, others were held in 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2015, and 2024 in the Smolenice castle.
