Conference Venue

PROBASTAT 2011 will be held in Smolenice Castle - the Congress Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

Smolenice is a village in the western part of Slovakia, located about 60 km north-east of the capital city Bratislava. The Castle, surrounded by a beautiful English park, towers above Smolenice in the eastern foothills of Male Karpaty (the Small Carpathians). The Castle was preceded by a fort watching the Czech Road that was destroyed and abandoned in the late 18th century. From this medieval stronghold only a part of the outside rampart with a cannon bastion is preserved. Renovation of the castle in the Romantic style, which began in the late 19th century, was finished in 1955.

Each year numerous international congresses and symposiums organized by institutions of the Slovak Academy of Sciences take place here. In the Congress Centre, 82 beds are available (in one-, two-, and three-bed rooms). Rooms have pleasant interiors and scenic views of the surrounding countryside.

Wireless internet connection is available in the common areas of the Castle.
