The ROBUST 2008 conference that is devoted to selected trends of mathematical statistics and probability theory was held for the first time in Slovakia, in Rohace mountains, in hotel Mier in Pribylina from 8 - 12 of September 2008.

The summer school ROBUST 2008 was organized as a czech-slovak conference by The Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists in cooperation with Czech Statistical Society, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles Univesiy in Prague and Institute of Measurement Science SAS in Bratislava.

More than 120 participants from Czech Republic and Slovakia attended in the conference. The conference program included invited lectures, lectures and papers of PhD students and students in the field of probability and mathematical statistics. 

Among invited lectures presented  RNDr. R.Harman, PhD., from Comenius University in Bratislava (Algorithms for optimal experiment planning), Doc. RNDr. D.Hlubinka, PhD., Charles University in Prague (Expedition into the depths od data), Prof. RNDr. A. Pázman, DrSc., from Comenius University in Bratislava (How to better understand the nonlinear squares methods with the help of geometry) and prof. RNDr. J. Štěpán, DrSc., Charles University in Prague (Stochastic modeling of epidemies).

Very interesting and of high quality were namely the presentations of PhD students. The best of them were selecteds by a jury and awarded by valuable prizes. Also PhD students from Slovakia were among the awarded: Mgr. Barbora Arendacká (IMS SAS Bartislava) and Mgr. Ján Somorčík (FMFI CU Bratislava).

Proceedings of the conference were published in 2009.
