Building of a top laboratory aimed at NMR research

State program of research and development (Complex solution of support and effective utilization of science and research infrastructure).

Period: 12/2013 - 12/2016

General manager: Fakulta chemickej a potravinárskej technológie STU v Bratislave, Oddelenie NMR a hmotnostnej spektrometrie, Radlinského 9, 812 37 Bratislava

Project leader: Doc. Ing. Tibor Liptaj, CSc.

Part-project leader: Prof. Ing. Ivan Frollo, DrSc.

Aim of the project is having built the Centre for NMR Based Material Imaging in the Institute of Measurement Science as a part of the National centre of NMR – centre of excellence. Some of the main goals of the specialized centre as a part of the NC of NMR during solving the task and after its finishing will be:

  • education of experts for NMR based measuring systems, technical as well as postdoctoral-study-based scientific,
  • function of an initialization centre for new products and technologies support,
  • support of research and development projects solving (own projects, local and international projects, technical services for other projects),
  • support of activities of other research centers and projects (centers of excellence,..).

Scientific orientation:

  • Natural sciences (biological materials from the point of view of their structure, NMR services in the field of specific products and services certification, lipid-water-ratio in selected groceries (water content in margarines, in oil seeds, fat in milk, etc.), water content (humidity) in selected pharmaceutical products, testing methods development of aiming medicines into specific organs of a living organism to force therapy – utilization of biologically noninvasive magnetic liquids, development of techniques for relaxation times measurement of biological materials, measuring techniques of selected medicaments effectiveness measurement, applications in botany, testing changes of structure due to environment).
  • Technical sciences (imaging methods oriented to defectoscopy of nonbiological materials from the point of view of their structure and physical features investigation, ferrofluids in the structure of nanoparticles, relaxometric and diffuse measurements and their relation to inner structure of samples, material research, testing selected materials with ferromagnetic ingredients, water-ratio in distillates of oil, water-ratio and oil-ratio in sands, waxes and in shales, measurement of water-absorptiveness of nonbiological samples, rubber-ratio of polymer mixtures. Development of techniques for magnetic fields and deduced quantities measurement, detection, imaging thin layers for the field of security techniques, copyright protection, etc.)
