The added value of chemistry for the knowledge and development of i) novel autoclaved aereted concrete and ii) macrodefectfree (MDF) materials

Project of the Scientific Grant Agency VEGA 2/0020/11

Duration of the project: 01/2011 - 12/2013

Principal investigator: RNDr. Peter Billik, PhD.

i) The project will in this part contribute to the knowledge of properties of autoclaved aereted concrete (AAC) from the modified raw mixes - fluid fly ash, the waste formed due to the technological changes of the combustion processes in coal power plants. The defining of phase changes due to changed raw mix compositions, together with the effects of these upon the physio-mechanical properties of AAC, will represent a key contribution of the research towards a database of knowledge about these novel AAC. ii) MDF materials are accepted as one of the examples of high-tech usage of the potential of cements in the future. Our earlier knowledge will be completed by the verification and justification of the effect of mechanochemical pre-treatment of raw mix upon the course of cross-linking interactions of functional groups of polymers with the surface of cement grains. This part of the project exerts a potential to increase both the reproducibility of syntheses and the moisture resistance of MDF materials.
