Institute of Measurement of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in 2021 actively participated in the solution of two European COST projects focused on multimodal and correlated imaging methods. The project COST CA16101 “Multi-modal imaging of forensic science records – tools for forensic science (MULTI-FORESEE)” was focused on multimodal imaging in the field of forensic science and was completed in 2021. The second COST CA17121 project “Correlated Multimodal Imaging in Life Sciences (COMULIS)” focuses on correlated multimodal imaging in the life sciences and continues. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Researchers from the Institute of Measurement Science of the Slovak Academy of Sciences developed several imaging methods within both projects – X-ray microtomography, X-ray microscopy, infrared reflectography and ultraviolet-induced fluorescence. In addition to publishing activities, we also applied the research results in social practice. Specifically, the X-ray microtomography method was successfully used as a forensic method in cooperation with the Institute of Forensic Medical Expertise and the National Criminal Agency of the Slovak Republic to obtain evidence in the case of particularly serious criminal activity. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The achieved results of these international projects can be used in several scientific disciplines, such as biology, paleontology, mineralogy, materials and forensics.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
