Smolenice Castle

In the course of the history the fellows of the Institute have participated in the organization of a number of scientific seminars, workshops, conferences and symposiums. Particularly in recent years they have been actively involved in the international conferences MEASUREMENT and Probastat. Representatives of the Institute were members of the organizing committees of many other home and international scientific events.

Conference MEASUREMENT

In 1991, when the tradition of the EMISCON conference was interrupted, the fellows of our Institute realized their responsibility for the development of measurement science in Slovakia and initiated the establishment of another scientific forum in the areas relevant to the research departments of the Institute: the MEASUREMENT workshop. Up to now 6 such international workshops have been held in Smolenice castle near Bratislava, the traditional venue for these events (each year starting from 1991 to 1994). Though the original goal of these workshops was to provide a forum for comparison of results achieved in our institute with state-of-the-art research at advanced laboratories abroad, represented by several invited lectures, in the recent years the MEASUREMENT workshops have become open scientific events accessible to all specialists interested in the following fields: measurement theory; design of experimental systems for measuring selected physical quantities; mathematical and computer modelling of bionic structures, biosignals and medical images; development of measuring systems for biomedicine.

Based on the experiences of the workshops, the MEASUREMENT workshop was replaced by the first biennal international conference MEASUREMENT in 1997. This event was organized in co-operation with the Institute of Machine Technology, TU Vienna, the Institute of Machine Technology, Kielce, and the Electrotechnical Faculty, University of West Bohemia, Plzen. The conference included the following scientific sessions: Theoretical problems of measurement; Measurement of physical quantities, and measurement in technology; Geometrical values and optical measuring methods; NMR tomography and spectroscopy; Bioelectric and biomagnetic fields, and image processing; Neural networks in signal processing. The conference MEASUREMENT '97 served as a firm basis for establishing a regular cycle of scientific meetings relevant to specialists from all participating branches, which can provide an informal and friendly atmosphere.

The last 6th International Conference on Measurement has been held in the Congress Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences at the Smolenice Castle on May 20 - 24, 2007.

The 7th conference Measurement 2009 will be organized on May 20 - 23, 2009.

Conference ProbaStat

Institute of Measurement also participates in organizing (traditionally in cooperation with Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of the Comenius University, Bratislava, Mathematical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava and Union of Slovak Mathematicians and Physicists) of international conferences on mathematical statistics - ProbaStat.

The first international conference on probability and mathematical statistics ProbaStat was held in 1991 in Bratislave and it followed the longterm tradition of home ProbaStat workshops (the first was organized in 1975). The following international conferences ProbaStat took place at Smolenice Castle in years 1994, 1998, 2002 a 2006.
